1. Roy Orbison, Blue Bayou

Rainey Knudson

If I could only see

that familiar sunrise through sleepy eyes

how happy I'd be. - Roy Orbison (1963)

Every day, we awaken to the sunrise—proof, we argue, of some underlying order in the universe, proof that life wants to be lived. Every day a renewal, every day an opportunity to begin again. Dawn arrives, so familiar and yet always miraculous, a cosmic hearth inviting us to warm ourselves. Someday, when we leave our solar system, will we feel like a young person leaving home for the first time? Will we learn a whole new level of yearning as we leave that familiar, dependable wellspring of energy and light, our Primary, our Sun, the source of life itself?
