One might find the optimism of this 80s anthem—theme to the movie Working Girl—a bit off-key today, with the country in such a bad mood. The heroine of this up-by-the-bootstraps story dreamed of getting rich on Wall Street in the “Greed is Good” era. Today we need other dreams, other definitions of success. But in the words of this gloriously indomitable song, our sons and daughters come through the fog, now and always, dreamers waking the nation, blazing a trail of desire through the darkening dawn, and we must have faith in the better angels of their natures.
