The notion that we live in an “age of worry” resonates. It does feel like we live in fretful times. But of course, worry is nothing new: 2,000 years ago, the Gospel of Matthew spoke of the lilies in the field, urging readers not to worry about tomorrow, for each day has trouble enough of its own. It has always been thus: to live is to worry—and to seek relief from worry. This song has fight in it, and comfort too: there is innocence and beauty in feeling like you’re doing everything wrong. Be friends with who you are.
