I'm an Impatient Reader; You're an Impatient Reader (168 words)

I don’t think I’m alone in having lost my patience for long articles on the Internet.

I check word counts. I think, “5,000 words… hm. Do I want to spend 20 minutes reading this? Isn’t there something else I should be doing?”

Often the answer is no: there’s nothing else I should be doing, except all the things I should be doing. In this way, I can follow Internet rabbit holes for an hour or more, skimming and darting from one article to the next, not doing the things I should be doing.

As a writer, I know about crafting a thoughtful article, only to have an editor trash chunks of it. As an editor, I know how to trash.

The goal of The Impatient Reader is to take out the trash for you.

This is a series of ultra-short articles on whatever topics are on my mind. There is always an estimated reading time. There is no pressure.

It’s trash day. Time to put out the bin.
